School Feature: Waggoner Road Junior High
Waggoner Road Junior High (WRJH) is a busy school where more than 930 students from many different backgrounds come to learn. The school’s main mission is to uplift and empower students as community leaders, providing them with the tools to maximize their educational opportunities and actively shape their futures. Staff works together to make sure every classroom is a safe place where students are challenged to do their best.

High Expectations and Big Rewards
The school uses a program called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). This program teaches students to think about their actions and meet high goals. When students do a great job, they earn fun rewards like trips to:
- The bowling alley
- The skating rink
- The movie theater
WRJH also knows that middle school can be tough. They have a strong support system to help kids with things like managing anger, solving problems with friends, or dealing with grief.
A Community That Includes Everyone
The leaders at WRJH believe that every student should feel like they belong. They host several "Signature Events" throughout the year to celebrate the diverse community the school supports:
- Culture Night: A show where students share their family traditions and perform for others.
- Heritage Assemblies: Yearly celebrations for Diwali, Black History Month, and Hispanic Heritage Month.
- Veterans Day: A special event to honor people who have served in the military.

Beyond the Classroom
There are many ways for students to get involved outside of their normal classes.
- Sports: 7th and 8th graders can join various sports teams.
- Clubs: Students can join the Student Council, Chess Club, Robotics, or the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).
- Mentoring: On Fridays, high school students and Coach Armor visit to help and give advice to younger students.
- Movie Scholars: Thanks to a partnership with Marcus Theatres, students who work hard on their MAP tests can earn free movie tickets!
Staying Connected
Communication is very important at WRJH and staff believe that parents are true "partners in education." The school sends out a monthly newsletter and keeps its website and Facebook page updated with photos and news.
Staff use TalkingPoints, as well as emails and phone calls, to keep in touch. Their goal is to make sure parents are never surprised and always know how their child is doing with their grades and behavior.
